Unsolicited letter excerpt from mother of an after-school student:

“Your program is phenomenal and it gave Myles the opportunity to enhance his self-esteem, courage and confidence. You gave him skills, experience, knowledge, trust and constant reassurance and encouragement that is absolutely priceless. You have left an incredible impression on Myles and you have planted a seed that I continue to see grow and shine as Myles embarks on these new Chapters in his life. Thank you for giving him this invaluable gift that will stay with him forever. You are truly a God sent.”

Parents: Don’t let your child waste precious after-school time surfing the net or hanging out. Instead, keep them learning and growing with our after-school karate classes!

Our after-school karate classes:

  • Teach manners and respect while instilling discipline and focus.
  • Are great for fitness and exercise, channeling your child’s excess energy.
  • Teach your child to learn about goal setting by earning his/her martial arts belts.

You won’t find another activity that does this!

  • Our teachers are certified Black Belt Master instructors with many years of experience teaching kids.
  • Our classes are divided by age groups to optimize learning processes needed at various ages.
  • Our classes inspire kids to do their best.
  • We give recognition based on earned achievement. We give out special academic achievement awards for children who get on the honor roll (A’s and B’s) at school. We give out another award for straight “A’s”. These awards will always be given in front of the whole student body with applause. In addition, we teach traditional Taekwondo; as such, we are NOT a belt factory. We will not put a rank belt on anyone who hasn’t earned it.
  • We provide FREE transportation from your child’s school to our martial arts school as a courtesy.
  • Our drivers have been vetted via Maryland criminal background checks. They have also been vetted via the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration for a clean driving record. They are CPR/First Aid-certified through the Red Cross.
  • Our school has been family owned and operated since 1987. As parents ourselves, we know what you want for your kids.

Our after-school martial arts course is NOT daycare, and we do not intend it to be. Our sole purpose and intent are to teach quality martial arts. This is NOT the program for your child if all you want is after-school care. However, it is a constructive alternative for kids who are interested in martial arts. Students in this program will learn valuable leadership skills, sportsmanship, and they will get in excellent physical condition through daily training. We are a true martial arts school, not a daycare, and as such, we are not in the supervision and care business but rather, the talent and skill business. We pick up from most Waldorf-Area Public Elementary Schools and Saint Peter’s Catholic School.

Once the children get to our school, they stow their book bags and lunch boxes, go to the bathroom, and get changed into their taekwondo suits. They then wait in the lobby for class to start. While they are waiting, they can talk among themselves, do their homework, and eat a snack they brought with them (or buy a pre-packaged snack from a vending machine). We do NOT provide snacks or dairy products (milk before a Taekwondo workout is not a good idea anyway). We DO provide a quiet room to do their homework, but our staff is NOT qualified to give homework help. We do NOT provide tutoring. In addition, students do NOT need to go outside for exercise. They get their exercise in class. Once the children have taken their karate lesson, they get changed back into their school clothes and wait for their parents to pick them up. We provide activities and games they can play while waiting to be picked up. Electronics are NOT allowed while they wait to be picked up. We do NOT offer before-school karate.

The only reason to use our program is to learn the martial arts and its tenets that we teach: exercise, discipline, respect, manners, self-defense, and self-esteem through earning belt ranks found nowhere else. Some of the benefits students can expect include awesome cross-training, building self-confidence, enhancing balance, honing agility, developing flexibility, sharpening reactions, improving speed, perfecting coordination skills, and more!

The Waldorf Martial Arts Transported After-School Karate Program is modeled after the original After-School Karate Program by Master Jim King in South Florida, with free transportation provided, a constructive alternative to daycare, extended day, and babysitting.

This is a week-to-week program. This is not a daycare! Our sole purpose and intent are to provide karate instruction.

  • Free transportation provided from Waldorf-area elementary schools to our martial arts school.
  • Students will get daily exercise, learn discipline, manners, respect for teachers and parents, as well as for other students and themselves. They will learn self-defense and temper management (how to win and lose gracefully). Most importantly, they will learn self-esteem through competition and earning belt ranks found nowhere else, which carries over into school and sports.
  • The After-School Karate Program is a year-round program that includes Summer Sport and Karate Camp (additional fees).
