We are family owned and operated. We’ve been teaching our Martial Art (Tae-Kwon-Do) in Waldorf since 1987. We are a family-oriented school. Many of our children’s parents also train with us!

Here are some of the benefits that our Martial Arts (Taekwon-Do) Program strives to accomplish with each student.

  1.  Self-Defense: This is the number one reason why most people decide to study martial arts. Children’s martial arts teach your child the techniques they need to defend themselves, but also the way to anticipate and avoid potential dangers.
  2.  Self-Confidence: As children become more proficient in their martial arts, their confidence gets a big boost and in turn they become more self-assured and confident.
  3.  Belts and Ranking: Belts and rankings are a public recognition among peers for the student’s effort and progress and it helps teach children to set goals and achieve them by persevering and prioritizing.
  4.  Discipline: Children’s martial arts training is a physical expression of ‘practice makes perfect’.  In a class, a student may execute a single movement or series of related movements, hundreds of times, which teaches the student that the progress that always happens during small improvements in technique and stamina, flexibility or power will come through endless repetition.
  5.   Individual Achievement (No One Sits On The Bench): Although there are many lessons to be learned from team and individual varsity sports, the ‘make the team’ model often favors the more physically developed players while alienating the late bloomers.
  6.  Gender Equality: The martial arts are one of the few sports where both boys and girls can play together so it gives brothers and sisters an opportunity to practice together and learn from one another as well.
  7.  Weight Control: Childhood obesity is a global epidemic and rising trends in overweight and obesity are apparent. The typical children’s martial arts class will often be comprised of warm-up calisthenics, teaching and practicing of moves and possibly some sparring, as well as some active games.
  8.  You Can Do It With Them: Most martial arts schools offer classes for both adults and children. While classes do not run simultaneously, they are typically one right after the other, which means that you can watch your children work out, and then they can watch you.
  9.  The Never-Ending Season: Many team sports, especially those primarily played outdoors, or in specific weather are seasonal. In martial arts we have classes year round and this consistency also helps build upon discipline, and allows children to progress at a much quicker pace than in team sports.
  10.  Athletic Development: The training itself is a whole body workout – hands, feet, hips and head all need to move in fluid and exact timed motions to properly execute a fight ending technique.

As you can see, at Waldorf Martial Arts, Taekwon-Do training is NOT just another sport.  It IS a personal improvement training system.  Our Karate classes will:

> Teach your child to concentrate more effectively, so that they can become better learners.

> Enhance your child’s coordination, so they can become better athletes.

> Improve your child’s social skills by teaching them how to be more respectful and courteous.

> Teach your child basic martial arts and self-defense skills.

> Teach strategic self-defense (bully-proofing and stranger-alert skills).

Our Karate classes reinforce the foundational qualities of respect, cooperation, and trust, that most parents are trying to instill in their children.

Our Karate program helps children excel in their academic school studies, sports, and social endeavors. It ensures that they will have the confidence in themselves and the character to make the right decisions when confronted with negative peer pressure. They will be leaders not followers!
